Smokey Point Concrete of Arlington recently received the Excellence in Concrete Construction Award from the Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association. The company’s project of note was the Stratford Place plat in Sultan, where special concrete was used to allow storm water to pass through pavement.

Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards
Smokey Point Concrete / Skagit Readymix

On June 1, 2006, Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association (WACA) presented the 2006 Awards for Excellence in Concrete Construction at the Westin Hotel in Bellevue, WA. Skagit Readymix and Smokey Point Concrete were pleased to accept Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards. Skagit Readymix located in Sedro Woolley, WA and Skagit County Public works were honored for their efforts in the Rehabilitation project of the Henry Thompson/Baker River Bridge in Concrete, WA. Representatives from Skagit County Public Works were Jennifer Swanson and Barb Hathaway and Skagit Readymix representative was General Manager Rod Hall. Additional participants in the project were structural engineer David Shearer Design, and General Contractor Dewey Hyatt with One-Way Construction.

Smokey Point Concrete located in Arlington, WA and Craig Morrison, owner of CMI Homebuilders, Inc and Pervious Concrete, and Brian Bennett from CMI Homebuilders received Sustainable Merit (first place) for the Stratford Place project. The project consisted of pouring Pervious Concrete for a 20-lot plat in the City of Sultan. Pervious Concrete is an environmentally friendly way to allow storm water to pass through the concrete pavement. Additional participants in the project were: General Manager Scott Mickels and Mark Erickson from Smokey Point Concrete, Engineer Noel Higa with Higa-Burkholder Association, Craig Bruner the City of Sultan Building Official, Engineer Jon Stack, Public Works Director Connie Dunn, Planner Rick Cisar, the mayor and city council. Smokey Point Concrete and Skagit Readymix continue to serve the local needs in a conservational way.
